Squished Penny Museum

November 5, 2002

Here are a few pictures to chronical our first visit to the Squished Penny Museum here in Washington DC.

Picture 1: Doug and Christina kick the tour off at the show case where they found several rare squished pennies

as well as a 1700 page book describing the history of the squished penny.

Picture 2: Doug and Ryan investigate the workings of a "squishing machine" (and in the background you meet the first curator, Pete, helping us find our recently squished penny)..

Picture 3: And no museum tour is worth the trip without trivia contest and prizes. Here is Christina with

the props from the first trivia contest (but you have to guess the trivia question that went with the props on your own)..

Picture 4 and 5: Here you can see Doug making his own squished penny with the hand-crank squishing machine (use your mouse to roll-over the image to see the results).

Images 6, 7, and 8: Below are the sequence of pictures of Christina squishing her penny with the Squished Penny Museum logo on it (by the way, due to Doug's photography of my forehead you will not be seeing pictures of me squishing my penny... but I did get the opportunity).

Picture 9: Our curators and hosts for the evening, Pete and Christine, showing some of the wonderful items available in the museum gift shop (or online at www.squished.com).

We would like to thank Pete and Christine for opening their museum (and their home) to us for a wonderful evening. Though it was the squished pennies that brought us to the museum, it is the genuine warnth and kindness of the curators that really brings the museum to life.
